Castle Melamine Placemats and Coasters

Leading the way in the design and manufacture of a wide range of gift and tableware products, this division of Customworks proudly makes their tablemats and drinks coasters in the UK and exports some of the best placemats to countries all around the world. From classic floral designs licensed by William Morris to fun every day artwork by Simon Drew or Martin Wiscombe there is a pattern that should appeal to everyone.

Melamine placemats made in UK

From their base near Edinburgh the company behind Castle Melamine placemats is one of the UKs leading makers of melamine placemats and coasters. Customworks started in the early 1990s and now employs more than 70 people in Scotland manufacturing various gift and homeware products. The acquisition of Castle Melamine in 2010 has allowed the group to expand their customer base and they now supply table mats and gift products to some of the worlds best known museums and art galleries.

Known primarily for their wide range of retail products for the museum and art gallery business. Castle Melamine has a large range of melamine, cork placemats and coasters made under license from some of the UKs leading artists, such as JoLoMo (John Lowrie Morrison OBE) and Martin Wiscombe. Alongside the fun, floral or traditional designs are contemporary placemats patterns such as the square shaped Art Nouveau Tiles design or the colourful Scott Inness range.

William Morris Melamine Placemats

The inspiration for many home decoration projects has been the 19th Century designer and founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement, William Morris. Now Castle Melamine manufacture a limited range of William Morris designs as melamine placemats and coasters. Such as the Strawberry Thief melamine place mats, but not the Pimpernel placemats version, or the popular William Morris Golden Lily placemats. A beautiful floral pattern which would be a compelling choice for many dining rooms.

The William Morris, like all the Castle Melamine cork backed placemats, are made with a tough melamine surface which is scuff resistant and durable enough to withstand temperatures up to 145C. The centre of the melamine placemats is made from hardboard and the base of the tablemats is cork backed to protect your dining table. Whilst not as cheap as other placemats, the Castle Melamine range do represent good value for money compared to other types of quality table placemats, particularly given that they are made in the UK.

JoLoMo Melamine placemats

Distinctive and colourful artwork by the leading Scottish landscape artist JoLoMo is available on a range of melamine placemats and drinks coasters produced by Customworks, most notably the views of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, which includes a selection of JoLoMo artwork featuring landscapes in sets of either four or six different melamine placemats. Many of the mats in this particular collection are square rather than rectangular which can sometimes fit better onto a dining table. Also square shaped mats are used when only the plate needs to be supported and the cutlery can be placed directly onto the tablecloth or straight onto the table.
