Square Tablemats

Buy square tablemats for your dining table

When looking for non-standard sizes, the best place to buy table mats, square or round, can be difficult as the majority of available placemats are rectangular in shape. Mainly because most dining tables tend to be rectangular or round and using square tablemats might not look right.

However, if you have a square dining or kitchen table then deciding to buy a set of square table mats would make sense. They are more likely to line up evenly with the edges of the table and they would also take up less room. This might be more relevant for smaller sized tabletops where space would be at a premium and you would need to be careful not to clutter the available surface area.

This frequently happens with kitchen tables as there is much less available space in the kitchen, making square tablemats a great choice for more casual dining. The ability to successfully protect tabletops needs even more attention with a small table as the chances of accidental spills is inevitably higher in a cramped space. With a reduced footprint, buying a set of square tablemats is the perfect choice for smaller sized kitchen tables.

Original, modern square tablemats

The appeal of finding something which has more originality is also an attractive reason to buy a set of square tablemats. With a reduced range to choose from and the majority of manufacturers opting for the more classic rectangular shaped mats, then the square tablemats version will appear much more modern and original to your dinner guests.

Regardless of the shape, the ability to protect your furniture is the primary reason for any type of placemat. Though equally important is that the design is both appealing to you and coordinates nicely with the décor of your kitchen or dining room.

Square tablemats with stylish designs

One design that would work in pretty much any decorative scenario would be the Just Slate square tablemats. These black slate placemats fit nicely onto smaller tables and the modern, contemporary look of slate works in both traditional or rustic kitchen settings as well as in a more minimalist or Scandinavian kitchen or dining room. The base of these slate square tablemats has a layer of soft foam to protect your furniture and the slate itself is food safe.

The square placemats that really stand out are the melamine range with the JoLoMo designs. There are a few square tablemats to choose from by this Scottish artist with the JoLoMo’s distinctive painting of scenes from around the Scottish islands, including the Outer Hebrides placemats and the Isle of Mull.

The additional benefit of square placemats is that they can look symmetrically attractive with a round dinner plate as the edge of the tablemat will appear to frame the plate completely. Whereas this level of symmetry would not be possible with the traditional rectangular mats.
